[What are you doing here?] “I’m protesting against the Turkish government’s treatment toward the Kurdish people. I have been here everyday since January 15, 2016 to sit in front of the Turkish Embassy. The date is supposed to commemorate the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr – a major proponent of non-violent protest.” – A Kurdish man standing in front of the Kurdish flag (right) and the American (left), directly across from the Turkish Embassy on Massachusetts Avenue (Washington D.C).

Corinthian columns, originally constructed in 1826 for the central-east portico of the Capitol Building, remain standing in harmonious beauty at the National Arboretum in Washington D.C. The Corinthian column is a widely used architectural style. Iktinos, the first supposed craftsman of the earliest designs, modeled the column after the alluring acanthus plant and implemented the style at Bassae for the Temple of Apollo Epikourios around 425 BC.
