Quicksilver
“Quicksilver,” alternatively known as Mercury or Hg, was once a favorite corrosive device for allied spies who sabotaged the metallic wings of the German Luftwaffe during World War II. Here at the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro, the “mercury rises” as the humidity and tension from track delays increase.

Corinthian columns, originally constructed in 1826 for the central-east portico of the Capitol Building, remain standing in harmonious beauty at the National Arboretum in Washington D.C. The Corinthian column is a widely used architectural style. Iktinos, the first supposed craftsman of the earliest designs, modeled the column after the alluring acanthus plant and implemented the style at Bassae for the Temple of Apollo Epikourios around 425 BC.
